Natural organic products

certified organic product
Certified Organic cotton, the purest form of cotton, is grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, heavy metals or GMOs (genetically modified organisms)

Though I never paid a lot of attention, I have noticed lately that there are a lot more organic products in my grocery store. I have noticed that they cost a little more than everything else, and I assume it is because it costs more to grow and produce things organically. Fruit and vegetables are the most common organics product I see, but I have begun to notice that other things are being labeled organic as well. I hope this is not just a gimmick, and that there truly is something better about these products.

Some people may say the organic products are not better than others. I have to disagree, at least when it comes to fruits and vegetables. When these are grown organically that means there were no pesticides used. I am not sure about any statistics regarding pesticides when used for growing fruits and vegetables, but I can’t imagine that they are good for you. Even though you may wash the skins that doesn’t mean that all of the pesticides have been removed. Organic products are supposed to be grown without any sort of pesticide what-so-ever, and they may not have the organic label unless this is absolutely true.

If you want to buy organic products you have to be ready to pay a higher price. From my understanding, there are strict guidelines for farmers who grow organic products. If these guidelines are not followed, they are not allowed to call them organic. There may be rules and regulations about the fields these foods are grown and, and there may have to be a very large buffer zone. I can imagine that growing organic products is probably more complicated than it seems. Not only do you have to follow rules and regulations, you also have to deal with bugs and insects, and the reasons why pesticides are used to begin with.

Though there are more and more organic products on the market today, they are still priced much higher. It will be up to you if you think the benefits are worth the extra cost. When I shop, I like to buy my fruits and vegetables from local growers when I can. I go to a farmers market, or a look in my local grocery store. Not all grocery stores have local fruits and vegetables, but if yours does, this is where you should buy your fresh fruits and vegetables. Many times, local growers can also be organic. If you can find your fruits and vegetables that have been grown in your own backyard, and that are also considered to be organic products, you should most definitely make sure they are your first choice when shopping.

  • Organically Grown Foods
The term "organic foods" refers to the methods used to produce the foods rather than to characteristics of the food themselves. The most common concept of "organically grown" food was articulated in 1972 by Robert Rodale: Food grown without pesticides; grown without artificial fertilizers; grown in soil whose humus content is increased by the additions of organic matter, grown in soil whose mineral content is increased by the application of natural mineral fertilizers; has not been treated with preservatives, hormones, antibiotics, etc.
